Why the need of rehabilitation centers?
Did you
know that as of 2014, there were 16.3 million adults who suffered from alcohol
use disorder in the US? This number has declined from 17.3 million as that of
2013. On the contrary, the illicit drug abuse in the United States has also
been increasing. According to a survey in 2013, an estimate of 24.6 million
Americans aged 12+ had used an illicit drug in the past month. To address this
issue, many rehabilitation centers have been set up all across the country.
Passages Malibu: A luxurious rehab
Passages
Malibu Addiction Treatment Center, simply known as Passages Malibu, is a
private for-profit addiction treatment facility located in Malibu, California.
It was founded by a father and son, Chris and Pax Prentiss in 2001. The center
comprises a $15 million mansion overlooking the Pacific Ocean. Although it is
disputed, Passages claims to have the highest success rate of 84% in the world.
In 2012, the center consisted of 29 beds and approximately 25% of its clients
were Californians. According to a New York Times report, it is ‘the largest and
most expensive’ of the many rehab centers situated in Malibu. In 2011,
treatment at the center cost $88,500 a month compared to the $27,400 at Betty
Ford Center. The center provides a number of recreational facilities and exotic
activities for its clients including tennis and swimming.
The location of the center is breathtaking: a vast stretch of the Pacific Ocean
with lush green lawn and palm trees make it a gratifying site for
rehabilitators.
Unlike
other rehab centers, Passages Malibu excludes the 12-step process and offers
its own unique treatment methods. Instead of a group approach, Passages offers
a customized treatment plan specifically designed according to needs and
condition of each client. Each client's condition and the scenario is evaluated
before a personal treatment addiction plan is introduced and implemented. In
order to concentrate on every aspect of the client's healing process, Passages
proudly provides 21 different methods for addiction treatment, each of which is
customized and provided regularly during the rehabilitation process. These
methods include Art Therapy, Hypnotherapy, Marriage and Family Therapy, physical
fitness, and yoga. In addition to these, Passages only allows 12 guests to stay
at the premises each of whom is surrounded by a team of expert doctors and
psychiatrists. This ensures that the clients get more attention and get more
attention. This one on one approach has proved to be more effective and is much
better for the complete understanding of each client’s condition.
The
exclusivity of this place makes Passages even more appealing. The center
consists of two juice bars, a large library and a chef’s kitchen with each
client having his own personal chef. There are 12 private bedrooms for each
client with their own personal marble bath. In addition to these, Passages also
has a media room, a gym and other recreational facilities like swimming and
tennis. Considering all these luxuries, it isn't surprising to note that many
celebrities also stayed at passages for rehabilitation including Mel Gibson,
David Hasselhoff, and Stephen Baldwin.
